Cobb County has fired up a countywide summer hiring push aimed at connecting thousands of metro job seekers with openings in retail, hospitality, public services and seasonal gigs. CobbWorks, the county’s American Job Center, has teamed with city governments and workforce partners on a run of job fairs and employer showcases set up for quick conversations, fast interviews and on-the-spot hiring. The timing lines up with a season when employers are working harder than usual to fill open roles in a tight labor market.
Regional push in motion
Local coverage has branded the effort a “massive regional hiring blitz” anchored by CobbWorks and municipal partners, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. Cobb County Economic Development says it joined forces with the City of Kennesaw and CobbWorks to host a countywide job fair on May 30 at the Jim R. Miller Park & Event Center, with events intentionally built to serve both youth and adult job seekers. Organizers have framed the fairs as a one-stop way for residents to meet multiple employers in one place and for companies to speed up their hiring process.
State data shows a tight labor market
The strategy lines up with state labor data showing Georgia’s labor force and employment at all-time highs while the unemployment rate holds near 3.5%, according to the Georgia Department of Labor. Recent releases from the agency indicate employers are dealing with less slack in the market, which helps explain the focus on concentrated hiring events and in-person interviews. County officials say the blitz is meant to move residents into jobs quickly while giving employers access to a deeper pool of candidates.
What the fairs produced
Organizers reported early success: WorkSource Cobb posted that the May 30 countywide fair brought together more than 65 employers and connected over 800 job seekers with career resources and interviews. Local listings and coverage noted that the event offered on-site interviews, résumé help and immediate hiring possibilities, according to Marietta.com. Officials said the mix of private-sector employers and public agencies was designed to match a wide range of experience levels and scheduling needs.
How to take part
Job seekers are encouraged to bring printed and digital copies of their résumé, dress for in-person interviews and be ready to talk through availability and work history. Organizers say more hiring events are planned through the summer as the county continues helping employers fill both seasonal and permanent vacancies.
