Oviedo Mall just leveled up its nightlife. Bruder Latin Restaurant & Brewery has quietly opened its first U.S. location inside the mall after roughly a $1.5 million buildout. The Colombian brewpub has taken over the former Oviedo Brewing Co. space and is rolling out on-site beer production alongside a menu of Latin American plates and cocktails.
According to the Orlando Business Journal, the concept opened in May, and the owners invested about $1.5 million to convert the unit into a full-service brewpub. That reporting frames Bruder’s arrival as part of the mall’s broader push to swap short-term retail for experience-focused tenants that give people a reason to stick around.
From Colombia With Beer
A job listing on Indeed states that Bruder will operate a brewpub at Oviedo Mall with in-house beer production and a full kitchen. The company bills itself there as an award-winning Colombian craft brewery and highlights international recognition, including a World Beer Awards gold for a Maracuyá, or passion-fruit, ale.
Mall Pivot: More Eating, Less Shopping
Kevin Hipes, who is heading up the mall’s redevelopment, told local station News 6 that management is steering the property toward longer visits and shared experiences rather than quick shopping runs. ClickOrlando reports that Hipes says new tenants, including Bruder and an Italian market, are designed to get guests to linger and make memories, not just grab a purchase and leave.
Space, Menu And Local Jobs
Property manager First Capital Property Group confirms that Bruder signed a long-term lease for the former Oviedo Brewing Co. unit and calls the renovation a key part of the mall’s revitalization strategy. FCPG notes that the brewpub space is roughly 8,789 square feet, and job postings show the venue hiring both front-of-house staff and brewing team members as it ramps up operations.
Part Of A Bigger Revamp
The Bruder debut slots into a larger effort to retool Oviedo Mall, which has been edging away from national chains in favor of local and specialty concepts. Orlando Weekly flagged Bruder as a marquee dining addition and reported that management plans to rebrand the food court as the “Oviedo Eatery” to nudge visitors into longer, more food-centric hangs.
