
An early morning drive along State Road 46 in Volusia County turned tragic on Tuesday when a 41-year-old man was killed and a 15-year-old girl was seriously injured in a violent collision near Morgan Alderman Road.
The crash happened around 6:30 a.m. and involved two sport-utility vehicles that ended up off the roadway, pinned against a guardrail. Emergency crews and Florida Highway Patrol troopers swarmed the scene as investigators worked to piece together how the wreck unfolded.
According to Talk of Titusville, the wreck occurred at approximately 6:31 a.m. when a 2026 Ford Explorer traveling eastbound on State Road 46 entered a curve, struck a guardrail, then crossed into the westbound lane. The left front of the Explorer slammed into the left front of a 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander. After the impact, both SUVs left the roadway and hit the guardrail. Troop D investigators are reconstructing the crash to determine what factors led up to the collision.
Victims and hospital transport
Per Orlando-News, the driver of the Mitsubishi, a 41-year-old man from Mims, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 15-year-old girl from Mims who was riding in the Mitsubishi was rushed in serious condition to HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital in Sanford.
The driver of the Ford Explorer, a 36-year-old man from Lake Mary, sustained only minor injuries and remained on scene following the crash, according to Orlando-News.
Florida Highway Patrol investigation
Troop D of the Florida Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the deadly crash. Talk of Titusville reports that Trooper Honick has been assigned as the crash investigator, while Corporal Barack is handling the homicide-related portion of the case.
The Florida Highway Patrol says the case remains active and additional details will be released as they become available. Troop D investigators are conducting a full reconstruction of the collision and will prepare a final report as officials continue their work on the case.
