A deadly single-vehicle rollover on westbound Interstate 80 near Coalville on Sunday left one person dead and two others fighting for their lives, according to state troopers. Investigators say the vehicle went off the roadway, overturned, and slammed into a concrete irrigation ditch. A front-seat passenger died at the scene, while the driver and a rear-seat passenger were rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Troopers say the investigation into what triggered the crash is still active, and more details will be released as they become available.
According to KSL NewsRadio, troopers identified the vehicle as a Nissan Rogue that had been heading west on I-80 when it crashed. The outlet reported that by about 2:30 p.m., the scene had been cleared, lanes had reopened, and the incident was no longer affecting traffic.
Troopers Still Puzzling Over Why Vehicle Left Road
Troopers with the Utah Department of Public Safety told reporters they do not yet know why the Rogue veered off the interstate and that the investigation is continuing. Officials did not immediately release the names of those involved, citing the need to notify family members first.
Short-Lived Slowdown On Local I-80 Stretch
KSL NewsRadio reported that emergency crews cleared the scene later in the afternoon and that the crash did not cause long-term disruptions for drivers using the busy corridor. The outlet also noted that investigators remain on the case and have asked anyone who might have information about the crash to contact authorities.
