A deadly early morning crash at Lamb Boulevard and Karen Avenue in east Las Vegas left one motorcyclist dead and another rider in the hospital Friday, turning a busy commuter intersection into a crime scene for hours.
Officers shut down lanes around the crossing while investigators documented the wreckage and crews cleared debris, which backed up traffic and slowed drivers for much of the morning. Authorities confirmed that the collision involved a motorcycle and another vehicle and that one person died while a second rider was injured and taken to the hospital.
According to News3LV, police are still working to determine what led up to the crash. Investigators remained on scene collecting evidence and piecing together the sequence of events. As of Friday, officials had not released the identities of those involved.
Intersection Near Jerome Mack Had Recent Safety Upgrades
The wreck happened at an intersection that Clark County had only recently targeted for safety upgrades near Jerome Mack Middle School. The work included a new traffic signal, raised median islands and pavement improvements, all billed as measures meant to better protect students and drivers along the corridor, according to KTNV.
County officials previously told KTNV that the Lamb and Karen crossing sees roughly 36,000 vehicles a day and sits on a six-lane stretch that has long been a concern for traffic safety advocates.
Valley Officials Urge Caution During Busy Summer Driving Season
The crash comes as the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department highlights dozens of high-crash intersections across the valley and urges drivers to slow down during what they call the "100 Deadliest Days of Summer," FOX5 Las Vegas reported.
In this latest incident at Lamb and Karen, authorities have not said whether speed, impairment or any other specific factor played a role. The department continues to investigate serious traffic crashes across the region as the busy summer travel season ramps up.
Investigators have not yet released the names of the victims. Police said additional details will be shared once on-scene processing is complete and next-of-kin notifications are made. This story will be updated if more information becomes available.
