A late Friday house fire tore through a home in Philadelphia's Strawberry Mansion neighborhood, killing one person and injuring three firefighters as crews scrambled to knock down heavy smoke and flames and check neighboring rowhomes for any spread, officials said.
Firefighters arrived Friday evening to find the residence already heavily involved, and one occupant was pronounced dead at the scene, according to CBS News Philadelphia. Three members of the Philadelphia Fire Department were hurt while operating at the blaze, the outlet reported.
A Neighborhood Scarred by Recent Deadly Fires
Strawberry Mansion has endured a string of high-profile and deadly fires in recent years, including a June 13, 2025 rowhome blaze that killed a pregnant woman and two children and prompted an arson investigation, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer. In the wake of that tragedy, crews launched a safety push on the block and installed smoke alarms in area homes, as FOX 29 reported.
Investigation Under Way
Officials have not yet released the cause of Friday's fire or the identities of those involved, and the investigation remains active, according to CBS News Philadelphia. The Philadelphia Fire Department has also not disclosed further details about the injured firefighters' conditions.
