A midafternoon attack inside the George W. Hill Correctional Facility in Delaware County left a 38-year-old inmate with severe facial injuries that required reconstructive surgery, according to investigators. The beating unfolded in housing unit 5B around 1:30 p.m., where surveillance cameras recorded the incident before the victim was rushed first to Paoli Hospital, then transferred to Jefferson University Hospital for specialized care.
Charges And Who Is Accused
Detectives have charged three prisoners at the Delco lockup with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment, according to Delco Times. The defendants are identified as 24-year-old Cameron M. Berry of Media, 24-year-old Curtis Y. Cannon of Philadelphia and 28-year-old Moab Bey of Chester.
The charges came after investigators reviewed a criminal complaint and footage from the jail's surveillance system that captured the confrontation inside the 5B housing unit.
What The Video And Complaint Describe
According to the criminal complaint, the surveillance video "showed Cannon punch the victim in the face," as reported by Delco Times. The complaint goes on to say that Berry and Bey then joined in, kicking the man while he was already down on the floor of the unit.
A corrections officer entered the block during the incident, and authorities say Cannon admitted to assaulting the inmate. The victim was found with severe swelling and lacerations to his nose and jaw, along with injuries to his elbow and hand, according to the complaint, before he was moved out of the facility for emergency treatment.
Ongoing Concerns Over Prison Safety
The attack is the latest incident to occur as George W. Hill continues to face scrutiny over safety and staffing. Delaware County took the facility back into public management in 2022, and watchdogs have since reported persistent problems inside the jail.
The Pennsylvania Prison Society has documented staffing shortfalls and other operational concerns at the prison, while reporting by Broad + Liberty has highlighted state monitors' findings that key conditions have worsened even as the county rolls out a 50 million dollar capital-improvement plan.
Defendants' Prior Cases And Case Status
According to court records cited by investigators, Berry was already serving a sentence on a 2025 assault case at the time of the alleged cellblock attack. Cannon is awaiting trial on a robbery charge stemming from August 2025, and Bey has a preliminary hearing pending on a burglary case from May in Chester.
The new aggravated assault and reckless endangerment counts were added after detectives reviewed the complaint and surveillance video. How the fresh charges will be scheduled and handled will be determined through the court docketing process, and prosecutors had not released additional details at the time of reporting.
