An early Sunday trip to Derbyshire Park turned deadly when gunfire erupted in the popular Daytona Beach sports complex, leaving one person dead and two others injured, according to police.
Daytona Beach police say the trouble started when a stranger walked up to a man and woman who were sitting in a parked vehicle at the park. The encounter escalated fast, ending in an exchange of gunfire that investigators are still working to untangle.
Officers were first called after a patient with a gunshot wound showed up at a local hospital. They later determined the shooting had happened at Derbyshire Park. Investigators told WKMG ClickOrlando the unknown man displayed a firearm, the male victim then retrieved his own gun and ordered the stranger to leave, and the man turned and fired multiple shots. The male victim returned fire, and officers later found the other man dead at the park.
