
A 23-year-old man was killed Thursday evening after a shooting in downtown Mount Vernon, according to police. Officers rushed to the 1300 block of South 2nd Street around 5:30 p.m. after multiple reports of gunfire. Mount Vernon police and Mount Vernon Fire personnel tried to save the man at the scene, but he was pronounced dead and detectives opened a homicide investigation.
According to KOMO, investigators believe an altercation between two groups escalated into gunfire and that a 23-year-old man was hit. KOMO reported that police released a photo of the scene and that authorities have not yet made the victim's name public. The investigation is still active.
