An early-morning shooting shut down a stretch of downtown Las Vegas on Friday after a person was found shot near 7th Street and Mesquite, prompting a full homicide investigation and closing off the surrounding block for hours.
Police Response and Scene
According to FOX5 Las Vegas, officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department were called to the area around 6:01 a.m. for reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found a person who had been shot, and homicide detectives were brought in to take over the investigation.
Road Closures and Evidence-Gathering
As FOX5 notes, “Homicide detectives have responded to the area to take over the investigation,” and roads around the intersection were temporarily shut down while police processed the scene. Drivers were urged to steer clear of the area as officers searched for witnesses and collected evidence.
Downtown Trend
This is the latest in a string of heavy police responses downtown this year, including a February homicide investigation that left the Mob Museum block locked down and other shots-fired calls closer to the Strip. Each incident has brought temporary street closures and renewed calls from Metro for tips, footage and cooperation from anyone who might have seen or recorded something.
