Cooling Centers And Heat Safety
The city has opened cooling centers and public libraries as safe spots to escape the heat, including Galatzan Recreation Center and Marty Robbins Recreation Center; check local listings for exact hours. If you are planning outdoor events for Juneteenth on Friday, June 19, expect hot conditions and consider shifting activities to the morning or evening.
Residents are urged to bring plenty of water, avoid heavy exertion during the midafternoon, and check in on older neighbors. Information on centers and hours is available through local listings as reported by KLAQ and in our heat advisory slams Borderland coverage.
Winds And Commute Notes
Gusty west winds on Wednesday afternoon into Thursday could kick up brief blowing dust in low-lying areas and make driving high-profile vehicles a bit tense. Residents should secure lightweight outdoor items and be ready for stronger winds near sunset Wednesday through Thursday morning.
There are no active watches or warnings for El Paso at this time, according to the National Weather Service, but conditions will still be hot, dry, and occasionally dusty.
