Marigny night owls are about to get a serious pasta upgrade. Valeriano Chiella, the chef behind the Fico Cucina pop-up, is putting down roots in the neighborhood this summer with a new restaurant called Procida. The name, inspired by the island off Naples, is Chiella’s way of promising “the same heart” as his roaming pop-up, only this time in a permanent dining room. The project will move into the Burgundy House at 2000 Burgundy Street, adding one more late-night food option within striking distance of Frenchmen Street.
Chiella announced the plans on Instagram, spelling out the new name and address in a post, as reported by NOLA.com. The outlet notes that Procida will take over the existing event and dining space at 2000 Burgundy Street, although Chiella stopped short of naming a firm opening date. According to the report, Fico's pop-up launched in 2024 and quickly built a following for its handmade pastas and comfort-forward Italian plates.
From Pop-Up To Steady Kitchen
That pop-up grind has already started to mellow out. Hoodline previously chronicled Chiella's shift to a steadier setup in a piece about his roaming pasta pop-up, noting that his move into Uptown's Balcony Bar gave him a chance to refine dishes that had been squeezed by the limitations of the pop-up circuit. At Balcony Bar, baked gnocchi, cacio e pepe and a chicken Milanese sandwich settled in as menu fixtures. That residency did double duty, building a loyal fan base while stress-testing the team for full-service work.
What To Expect At Procida
Chiella's cooking leans into simple, tightly executed Italian comfort food, the kind that wins over both homesick Italians and carb-hungry locals. Think baked gnocchi in a vodka-forward tomato sauce, crisp chicken Milanese sandwiches and daily fresh pastas, and you have a good idea of what Procida is expected to highlight. The Instagram announcement framed the restaurant’s name as an homage to “tradition, hospitality and gathering around the table,” according to NOLA.com. Chiella has previously said that the pop-up model gave him a direct line to diners' tastes, and Procida appears designed to preserve that close connection while adding a proper dining room and more predictable hours.
Where It Fits In The Neighborhood
The corner at 2000 Burgundy Street sits just a few blocks from the music rooms along Frenchmen Street, which puts Procida within easy reach of both late-night revelers and nearby residents. The building has already played host to event and dining concepts in recent years, making it a natural fit for a chef who favors a small team and a high-turnover menu. Chiella's arrival also folds neatly into a recent wave of approachable Italian projects from local and national chefs across New Orleans.
In his social post, Chiella hinted at an early August opening timeline but did not commit to a specific day; he and his team say they will share reservation details and hours as the launch gets closer. For now, Procida’s Instagram account and Chiella's ongoing Balcony Bar appearances remain the best ways to preview the menu before the doors at Burgundy Street officially swing open. We will update this story when the chef announces an exact opening date and a full menu.
