A 22-year-old man shot dead early Sunday in Cleveland’s Garden Valley neighborhood has been identified as Jahmere Williams-Johnson, according to police. Officers found Williams-Johnson with a gunshot wound to the chest and rushed him to University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The killing lands in the middle of a tense run of East Side shootings that has residents on edge.
As reported by Cleveland.com, officers said the shooting unfolded around 4 a.m. on the 7300 block of Garden Valley Avenue after a suspect pulled a firearm and shot Williams-Johnson. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition before the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner officially identified him. Police said the shooter left the scene, and no arrests had been made as of this morning.
A Violent Stretch On The East Side
Garden Valley has seen multiple shootings this month, part of a pattern of gunfire on the city’s East Side. A pre-dawn May 25 shooting left another man in critical condition, and local TV coverage from 19 News has tracked related incidents nearby. That run of violence has residents calling for more patrols and urging anyone with footage or information to step up.
Investigators Seek Leads
The killing was the third fatal incident over the Juneteenth weekend, according to Cleveland.com, another grim marker in what has already been a rough stretch for the neighborhood. Detectives say they are continuing their probe, reviewing available evidence, and working to identify the shooter. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner and hospital officials have described Williams-Johnson’s death as a suspected homicide.
How To Help The Investigation
Local outlets report that authorities are asking anyone with video or tips to contact Crime Stoppers of Cuyahoga County at 216-25-CRIME. Officials and reports, including coverage of how neighborhood cameras and hotlines have been pivotal in similar East Side cases, underscore how crucial community cooperation could be in solving this latest shooting.
