Neighbors in Mount Adams woke up Thursday to the sound of crunching glass underfoot and the sight of busted-out windows up and down the hill, after a late-night run of car break-ins that left the usually quiet neighborhood on edge.
Police say investigators are probing multiple streets
Officers checked out reports on at least seven streets after the break-ins, which were reported around 2:30 a.m., according to FOX19. Investigators told the station they believe the thieves may have been hunting for guns, although no firearms were reported stolen. Police have not identified any suspects, and the investigation is still active. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Cincinnati Police Department.
Security video shows suspects and scope of damage
WLWT reports that residents have shared security footage that appears to show masked figures hustling from car to car, hitting one vehicle after another. Police told the station they believe more than 50 cars were targeted across several streets. According to the station, the earliest clips start around 1:30 a.m., and a drone later captured video of a white SUV leaving the area. Neighbors said they found glass scattered on porches and sidewalks when the sun came up.
What residents on Oregon Street found
On Oregon Street, resident Julia Lamb told FOX19 she “counted maybe ten” vehicles with windows smashed. She said a golf bag was left hanging out of a pickup truck, as if thieves had been interrupted or simply moved on. Lamb added that neighbors warned her something similar had happened in recent years, and many residents said they plan to swap and share camera clips to help detectives piece together what happened.
How residents can protect vehicles
Authorities and neighbors are urging some basic steps to lower the odds of becoming a target: remove valuables and firearms from vehicles, lock all doors, and park in well-lit spots whenever possible. Keep an eye on home security and doorbell cameras, and if you have footage from the overnight hours, save it and share it with investigators so officers can line up timestamps and track movements.
Investigation continues; police ask for tips
Detectives are canvassing Mount Adams and reviewing the growing stack of camera footage, but there have been no arrests so far, WLWT reported. Police are still asking anyone with tips, video, or other information from the neighborhood to come forward so they can build a clearer timeline of the overnight spree.
