Months after a grisly discovery inside an abandoned Gridley warehouse, police say they have their man.
The Gridley Police Department has arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with the killing of 39-year-old Edgar Carlos Garcia, whose body was found last summer inside a vacant warehouse at 110 Virginia Street. Investigators say Garcia died from fatal injuries suffered during an altercation, and that his body had been there for several days before it was discovered on Aug. 7, 2025. Police describe the arrest as the result of an extensive investigation.
The Gridley Police Department said Thursday that the suspect was booked into the Butte County Jail on homicide-related charges. Officials did not immediately release additional details about the suspect or the circumstances of the arrest, saying more information would come as the case moves forward.
Investigation and discovery
Officers were first called to the warehouse at 110 Virginia Street on Aug. 7, 2025, after reports of a body inside the abandoned building. The victim was later identified as Garcia, a 39-year-old Mexican national. Investigators determined that he died from injuries sustained during an altercation, and that his body had been at the site for several days before being found, according to The Sacramento Bee.
What happens next
According to the Gridley Police Department, the 32-year-old suspect is being held at the Butte County Jail on homicide-related charges while prosecutors review the case. The Butte County District Attorney's Office has been working with investigators from Gridley and Yuba City, and will decide what specific charges to file and when the suspect will first appear in court.
