Gunfire broke the early Sunday quiet in New Orleans' French Quarter when a woman was shot near the intersection of Iberville and Royal streets, sending another jolt through one of the city's busiest tourist corridors.
New Orleans police say officers rushed to the corner of Iberville and Royal on Sunday morning and found a woman wounded at the scene. Emergency medical crews took her to a hospital, but investigators have not yet released any details on her condition or a possible motive, according to WDSU.
Block With A Violent Track Record
The Royal–Iberville stretch has seen more than its share of blue lights in recent years, including back-to-back Central Business District shootings reported in March and a deadly 2024 incident near the same crossroads. Coverage of those back-to-back CBD shootings and prior Hoodline reporting highlight how this intersection repeatedly lands in the middle of police responses and City Hall debates over French Quarter safety.
Police Tight-Lipped, Public Asked To Help
NOPD detectives are working the case but are keeping most details under wraps for now. Anyone with information or video from the area is urged to call the department's non-emergency line at (504) 821-2222, according to the City of New Orleans, or to leave an anonymous tip with Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
Another Hit To The Quarter's Safety Jitters
The shooting lands at a tense moment for the French Quarter, as New Orleans tries to keep its party hub feeling safe for visitors and locals while confronting a string of high-profile crimes. Earlier this spring, The Associated Press reported that National Guard troops were still assigned to parts of the Quarter while city leaders wrestle with longer-term security plans.
