Two men were shot within a block of each other late Monday night in downtown New Orleans, rattling a busy stretch of the Central Business District that spills into the French Quarter.

The gunfire broke out around 10:50 p.m. near Royal and Iberville streets, according to WWL-TV. Officers with the New Orleans Police Department found one man with a gunshot wound in the 100 block of Royal Street and another man shot in the 700 block of Iberville Street. Both were taken to local hospitals, but police did not immediately release their conditions.

Investigators have not said whether the two shootings are connected, and as of the initial report, no arrests had been announced.

Busy Corridor With A Violent Track Record

The Royal and Iberville corridor sits on the edge of the French Quarter, where tourists, office workers and late-night bar crowds all collide. It is also an area that has seen serious violence before.

The same intersection was the backdrop to a deadly 2024 incident that Hoodline covered as a deadly 2024 Iberville shooting. That history has kept pressure on officials to address safety in the CBD and neighboring entertainment districts, even as foot traffic remains heavy late into the night.

Police Ask For Tips

NOPD detectives worked both scenes Monday night and called on anyone who saw or heard anything to come forward.

In a recent bulletin on GovDelivery, the department lists its homicide tip line and other resources. Tips can be made directly to NOPD Homicide at 504-658-5300 or anonymously to Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans at 504-822-1111.

Police have not released additional details about the victims’ conditions or whether the two shootings are believed to be related.
