Gunfire sent two men to the hospital Saturday night just off the U Street corridor in Northwest Washington, after shots were reported in the 900 block of Florida Avenue NW. Authorities said both men sustained injuries that were considered non-life-threatening.
What happened
According to WJLA, Third District officers responded around 10:08 p.m. to the 900 block of Florida Avenue NW, where they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. D.C. Fire and EMS personnel transported both victims to area hospitals, and authorities told the station their injuries were considered non-life-threatening.
Police presence in the corridor
The shooting comes shortly after the Metropolitan Police Department designated the U Street corridor as a juvenile curfew zone for a late-May weekend, a temporary move that included Florida Avenue within its perimeter, according to a press release from the MPD. The curfew, announced May 28, was intended to limit large gatherings and reduce disorderly conduct in the busy nightlife corridor.
Investigation
Investigators have not released any suspect description, and no arrests had been announced as of Sunday, WJLA reports. Police say they are still working to piece together what led up to the shooting and are canvassing the area for witnesses and surveillance video.
How to help
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Metropolitan Police Department at 202-727-9099 or submit anonymous tips by texting 50411, per the MPD. The department’s tip page notes that texts and photos can be sent to the anonymous line, but it is not an emergency number.
Police say the investigation remains active. This story will be updated if authorities release additional details.
