An adult man was left fighting for his life Friday night after being shot in the head outside a corner store in southeast Houston, according to police. Officers with the Houston Police Department’s Southeast Patrol Division were called out around 11:30 p.m. to the 8900 block of Cullen Boulevard, where they found the wounded man and rushed him to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The shooter or shooters had already taken off by the time officers arrived, and investigators say they still do not know the motive.
Investigators Review Surveillance Footage
Detectives are now combing through surveillance video from the store and the surrounding block as they work to piece together what happened and identify any suspects, according to Click2Houston. Officers canvassed the area for witnesses Friday night, but in their initial update they reported no arrests and did not announce any persons of interest.
Southeast Houston Has Seen Recent Shootings
The stretch near Cullen Boulevard has been rattled by several violent incidents in recent months, leaving neighbors increasingly wary of late-night scuffles and convenience-store confrontations. In March, Hoodline covered a backyard confrontation that ended with two people shot and another person detained, a reminder that the area’s public-safety issues are not new; see this earlier backyard showdown.
Police Ask For Video And Witness Tips
Houston police are asking anyone who saw the shooting or has relevant video to contact the department or reach out anonymously to Crime Stoppers, according to Click2Houston. Authorities have not released the victim’s name and have not provided any update on his condition as the investigation continues.
This story will be updated as police share more details and as investigators develop new leads. Anyone with tips or footage from the 8900 block of Cullen Boulevard is urged to contact HPD.
