A 35-year-old motorcyclist died Wednesday after a violent collision on Hermitage Avenue in Nashville, according to police. Emergency crews rushed the rider to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries. The crash shut down lanes for hours and drew a heavy police presence as crash detectives documented the scene.
Crash reported on Wednesday afternoon
According to WKRN, the Metro Nashville Police Department said the collision was reported around 4:40 p.m. Wednesday. Investigators said the rider’s Kawasaki ZX1 was heading south on Hermitage Avenue when it struck the driver’s side of a Mercedes sedan that was crossing Hermitage from Academy Place. Officers blocked off traffic in the area while they worked the crash.
Police investigation underway
MNPD’s Traffic Division, which is responsible for serious crash investigations, responded to the scene and began collecting evidence and witness statements. The department has not yet released any information about citations or charges as the investigation continues. Victim identified; witness accounts
WKRN identified the rider as 35-year-old William Scott and reported that he was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he later died. Witnesses told officers that Scott was driving recklessly and speeding before the impact. MNPD told WKRN there was no evidence of impairment for either driver. Investigators said they plan to review video and other physical evidence to pin down the exact sequence of events.
Local crash context
Fatal motorcycle crashes have been reported across Davidson County this year, including another high-speed wreck that shook local riders earlier in the year. As WSMV reported in February, a teen motorcyclist died after an alleged high-speed collision. MNPD maintains an interactive vehicle crash map and traffic safety tools on its website for residents, commuters, and riders.
What officials say next
Police said they will release more information as the investigation moves forward and urged anyone who witnessed the crash or has video footage to contact MNPD’s Crash Investigation Unit. Families and nearby residents can follow official MNPD channels and local news outlets for updates as detectives finalize their findings.
