A stretch of Springs Road in Hickory turned deadly Friday when a 59-year-old woman’s vehicle left the roadway and hit a street sign, then slammed into a parked Toyota Corolla near Kool Park Road, authorities said. Emergency crews rushed the driver to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries. The collision temporarily shut down part of Springs Road while troopers worked the scene.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol identified the driver as 59-year-old Sharon Ann Lineberger of Hickory and confirmed that the Corolla was unoccupied. Troopers told reporters that speed and impairment did not appear to be factors in the crash and that Lineberger was not wearing a seatbelt, according to WCNC.
