A Stanislaus County jury on Wednesday convicted 41-year-old Hughson resident Troy McComak on multiple felony charges tied to a string of violent incidents, including felony domestic violence, assault with a firearm, false imprisonment and criminal threats. Sentencing will be set at a later date in Stanislaus County Superior Court.
Verdict and charges
Stanislaus County District Attorney Jeff Laugero announced the jury's decision in a Facebook post, saying the convictions stem from a March 6, 2025 incident at a Hughson residence and later confrontations. According to the Stanislaus County District Attorney's Office, prosecutors proved that McComak suffocated the victim, causing her to struggle to breathe and nearly lose consciousness, dragged her by the hair, forced the infant from the mother and prevented her from leaving the home. Prosecutors also alleged that McComak threatened to kill the victim if she testified, armed himself with a shotgun and a pistol, pointed a firearm at his father after a court hearing and then fled the area before being located in Nevada. The DA's post notes that McComak faces a maximum state prison term of 35 years and 8 months and that the office included a media contact for inquiries.
Prosecutors' account in court
Local reporting has detailed the sequence of allegations that prosecutors presented to jurors, including testimony that the March 6 incident left the victim with a swollen jaw and other injuries. As reported by The Modesto Bee, testimony also described a May 28, 2025 episode in which McComak allegedly donned tactical gear, grabbed multiple firearms and threatened family members shortly after his wife took the stand.
Arrest and court timeline
After the May 28 confrontation, McComak fled and was arrested days later in Carson City, Nevada. Nevada outlets reported that he was wearing body armor and was taken into custody without incident. Court listings show the case was filed as CR-25-002794 and moved to a jury trial in spring 2026, where jurors returned the guilty verdict.
