San Antonio police are searching for a man accused of sexually assaulting a 37-year-old woman after he allegedly offered her a ride on Friday night, then drove her to a Southwest Side park instead. According to authorities, the woman managed to escape his vehicle, run for help and was found by a nearby witness before being taken to a hospital. The suspect took off before officers arrived, and detectives are still working the case with no arrests announced so far.
As reported by KSAT, officers were called after 10 p.m. to the 3900 block of Pecan Valley Drive near Southside Lions Park. A preliminary SAPD report states the man offered the woman a ride, then drove her to a park and physically and sexually assaulted her. The report says she was able to get out of the vehicle and flee, while the suspect left the scene.
Police ask for tips
SAPD says investigators have not yet made an arrest and are asking the public to come forward with anything that might help, including video or dash-cam footage from the area. The City of San Antonio lists the SAPD tip line at 210-207-7401 and Crime Stoppers at 210-224-STOP (7867). Tips can also be submitted through the P3 Tips app or online, and callers can remain anonymous through Crime Stoppers.
Nearby park and trail incidents
The attack lands on top of other recent reports of assaults and attempted assaults in San Antonio parks and along greenways, sparking fresh worries for people who rely on the city’s trails for exercise and commuting. In late May, SAPD asked for the public’s help after an attempted sexual assault on a Northwest Side trail, as KSAT reported.
Support for survivors
Anyone affected by the incident can call the Rape Crisis Center’s 24-hour hotline at 210-349-7273 for free, confidential advocacy and counseling, according to Rape Crisis Center. Victims who want to preserve evidence may seek a Sexual Assault Forensic Exam from a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. SAPD notes that officers may arrange transport to Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital for SANE exams and that the Special Victims Unit will handle follow-up.
