A high-speed police chase barreled off Interstate 95 and ended Thursday morning beside Trinity Elementary School in New Rochelle, startling kindergarten students and families who were outside for Field Day. The fleeing driver crashed and ditched the vehicle next to the school’s athletic field, then ran into nearby brush. Staff quickly rushed everyone inside and activated safety protocols, and district officials later confirmed that no students or staff were harmed.
According to a message to families and as reported by Daily Voice, the incident began at around 8:45 a.m. when New York State Police troopers pursued a vehicle on Interstate 95 that left the highway, crashed, and was abandoned in a residential parking lot next to Trinity’s athletic field. The driver then reportedly tried to flee on foot through a wooded area between the lot and the school before troopers and New Rochelle officers located and took the person into custody without incident. District officials said the arrest was made quickly and that the suspect’s name had not been released.

School administrators and staff moved students and families indoors and placed the building on a schoolwide lockout while officers worked the scene.
