San Diego woke up under a blanket of low clouds this morning, with temperatures sitting in the mid-60s at San Diego International Airport and a shallow coastal deck stretched over the beaches. It is a classic early-summer setup: expect a mild day with highs near 71°F, light southwest breezes, and inland neighborhoods breaking out into sunshine by mid-afternoon.
Foggy Mornings, Sunny Afternoons
Low clouds and pockets of fog are expected to cling to the coast through much of the morning before gradually scattering inland. Downtown and Mission Valley may hang onto that gray ceiling a bit longer than the rest of the city. Tonight, the marine layer is forecast to refill west of the mountains, dropping lows to around 60°F. According to the National Weather Service, no watches or warnings are in effect, and the marine influence should ease by midweek.
Afternoon Winds Pick Up
Closer to the bay, winds will stay on the lighter side, but conditions turn noticeably breezier over the mountains and through the passes this afternoon. Gusts are expected to reach roughly 25 to 40 mph along ridgelines and in the usual wind-prone gaps. Drivers heading east into the foothills and hikers on exposed trails should be ready for those gusty bursts and secure anything that might get caught in the wind.
Warming Trend Later This Week
By Wednesday, high pressure starts to build in, nudging daytime highs into the mid-70s by Friday, even as morning clouds continue to hug the shoreline.
