Kellogg's Memphis cereal plant on Frisco Avenue is bracing for a painful summer, with 117 jobs set to be cut as the company shifts production and modernizes equipment. The layoffs will be permanent and will hit both union and non‑union employees across several departments, with local partners already gearing up to help workers land on their feet.
The company has filed an official WARN notice with the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, according to Action News 5. The filing lists 117 employees, with separations scheduled to begin Aug. 7, 2026, and wrap up by Oct. 2, 2026. The Greater Memphis Local Workforce Board is coordinating services for workers named in the notice.
Company's overhaul plan
Kellogg has framed the cuts as part of a larger manufacturing overhaul that includes investing in newer equipment and shifting production away from older plants. The company described similar steps in August 2024 when it announced plans to downsize Memphis operations, saying it would put multi‑million dollar investments into modernizing its supply chain.
Plant history
According to the Better Business Bureau, the Frisco Avenue plant opened in October 2001. For more than two decades, it has been a steady piece of Memphis' manufacturing footprint.
Local response and worker support
The Greater Memphis Local Workforce Board told Action News 5 it is coordinating services for displaced workers. Officials said details about job fairs, retraining or other programs will be announced as the company and state finalize their transition plans.
What comes next
The WARN timeline gives workers and local agencies a short runway to prepare, with separations starting Aug. 7 and ending Oct. 2. The cut adds to other workforce shifts around Memphis this year, from warehouse consolidations to store closures, and highlights ongoing churn in the region's manufacturing and logistics sector. Hoodline recently tracked similar regional reductions, including when nearly 200 jobs were cut at a GXO warehouse hub.
