Killer On The Run After Arden Arcade Liquor Store Slaying

A homicide investigation is underway in Arden Arcade after a deadly confrontation inside a neighborhood liquor store Saturday afternoon left one person dead and a suspect on the run, according to authorities.

Deputies locked down the 1000 block of Howe Avenue and quickly turned the area into an active crime scene, with patrol cars blocking entrances and homicide detectives combing the parking lot and storefront for evidence. Officials have not yet released the victim's name or any identifying details.

Sheriff's Office spokesperson Sgt. Ed Igoe said the killing happened at Prestige Wine and Liquor at 1050 Howe Ave., near Enterprise Drive, and confirmed that a suspect fled before deputies arrived. “Still a very active investigation,” Igoe wrote, as reported by The Sacramento Bee.

Television crews and passersby described a heavy sheriff's presence, with multiple patrol units lining Howe Avenue while detectives worked the scene. Local station KCRA reported that deputies were gathering information from witnesses in the 1000 block of Howe Avenue and that the suspect remained at large.

Another Violent Flashpoint On Howe Avenue

The same stretch of Howe Avenue has already been on edge this spring. In April, a mass shooting near Howe Park wounded four people and drew a multijurisdictional law enforcement response. That case is still under investigation, according to The Sacramento Bee.

Neighbors and business owners said the latest killing only adds to unease along the busy commercial corridor, where weekend shoppers and commuters suddenly found themselves watching another major crime scene unfold.
