A knife attack outside a northeast Charlotte restaurant on Monday left a pregnant woman with minor injuries and a 34-year-old man seriously hurt, according to police.
Officers were called to a reported assault with a deadly weapon on the 5100 block of Equipment Drive in northeast Charlotte, where they found the two victims. The scene unfolded outside a restaurant along the busy corridor, authorities said.
According to Queen City News, the Charlotte‑Mecklenburg Police Department said the victims and the suspect were known to each other but not related by family. The 26-year-old pregnant woman suffered minor injuries, while the man had severe lacerations that required hospital care.
What police say
Queen City News reports that CMPD accused the suspect of having "attempted to kill" the pregnant woman using a deadly weapon. Investigators also told the outlet that the attacker "used hands, feet and teeth" during the assaults, in addition to the knife.
The suspect is facing two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, along with one count of assault on a female, according to investigators.
Injuries and hospital update
Police said the 34-year-old man suffered severe lacerations and was taken to Novant Health’s main Charlotte campus for treatment. The pregnant woman was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Novant Health lists Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center as its primary hospital in Charlotte.
Charges and next steps
Investigators said charges have been filed, though it was not immediately clear whether the suspect was in custody or when an initial court appearance might take place.
