A large warehouse in the La Riviera area of east Sacramento County went up in flames Monday evening, sending thick, black smoke over nearby neighborhoods and pulling a multi-unit wave of firefighters into the area. Crews worked for hours to knock down visible flames and shield adjacent buildings while investigators staged to move in once the scene was safe. No injuries were reported during the initial response.
Crews on scene
Firefighters were dispatched to the 9600 block of Oates Drive, just west of Bradshaw Road, after reports of a commercial-structure fire, according to FOX40. Reporters at the scene described smoke pouring from the doors and windows of the large building as multiple units stretched hose lines and set up water operations. Crews concentrated on containment to keep the fire from jumping to neighboring properties.
What officials said
According to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, crews "began to extinguish the fire and prevent its spread," and the cause and origin remain under investigation. The district also reported that no injuries had been confirmed during the active response. Metro Fire said additional details will be released as investigators wrap up their work.
Damage and disruption
The full extent of structural damage was still unclear as firefighters continued mop-up efforts and investigators launched an initial assessment, FOX40 reported. Officials said the origin-and-cause probe could take time before a complete tally of the damage is available.
