A Brazoria County sheriff’s deputy is on administrative leave after an early-morning traffic stop in Lake Jackson spiraled into a brief pursuit and a fatal shooting in the garage of a home, according to authorities. The driver was taken to a local hospital and later died.
Investigators say the encounter started around 12:09 a.m. near FM 2004 and This Way Street, when a vehicle failed to stop for a deputy. The short chase ended when the car pulled into the attached garage of a home on Indian Warrior Trail. The deputy opened fire after the driver made contact with them, and the driver was later pronounced dead at the hospital, according to FOX 26 Houston.

The Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office said the deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated. The Texas Rangers are assisting, working alongside the Brazoria County District Attorney’s Office.
