A Saturday night walk along East Flamingo Road turned critical when a pedestrian was hit by a westbound car just east of South Topaz Street, leaving him with life-threatening injuries and fighting for survival in a Las Vegas hospital.

Police said the victim, a 42-year-old man, was taken to Sunrise Trauma, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit. Detectives with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section are handling the case.

What police say

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, as reported by News 3 Las Vegas, the crash happened around 9:14 p.m. Saturday. Investigators said a 2013 Lexus ES350 was traveling west on East Flamingo when it entered the pedestrian’s path.

The Lexus, driven by a 72-year-old man, struck the pedestrian with the front of the vehicle, projecting him into the westbound lanes, police said. The driver stopped immediately, called 9-1-1 and stayed at the scene. According to investigators, he showed no signs of impairment.

Flamingo corridor has seen multiple serious crashes

East Flamingo has been the site of several late-night collisions that have left pedestrians critically hurt or worse, with many of those victims taken to Sunrise Hospital’s trauma center for advanced care. Sunrise Hospital is one of the valley’s primary trauma centers and routinely treats severe injuries. Earlier this year, Hoodline coverage tracked similar incidents on Flamingo Road.

As the investigation continues, LVMPD detectives are asking anyone who may have information, witnessed the crash or has dash-cam footage to contact the Collision Investigation Section. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers. Both eastbound and westbound lanes were temporarily shut down Saturday night while officers processed the scene.
