A quiet northwest Charlotte townhome community turned into a crime scene just before 1 a.m. today when gunfire broke out, leaving one person seriously hurt, according to investigators. Doorbell camera footage captured rapid gunfire echoing through the neighborhood, and a white pickup later slammed into a parked SUV as people scrambled to get away. The wounded person was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, and police say the case is very much active.
As reported by WSOC, the shooting happened on Juniper Berry Drive, off Oakdale Road near Interstate 485. MEDIC confirmed one person was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Officers blocked off the area with crime-scene tape while K-9 teams canvassed the neighborhood and crime-scene technicians worked to collect and document evidence. Police were also seen going door to door, talking with neighbors as detectives tried to piece together how the chaos started.
Doorbell video appears to capture the shooting
Channel 9 obtained doorbell video that, as WSOC notes, appears to capture a rapid series of gunshots ringing out in the neighborhood, followed by flashes from the gunfire and the sound of a crash. The footage shows a white pickup striking a parked white Santa Fe. Moments later, the driver of the pickup gets out and runs away while other cars speed off from the area. Neighbors told reporters that officers collected surveillance footage and took witness statements to help move the investigation forward.
