A late-night hit-and-run near Carpentersville Middle School left three people injured Saturday, with one victim fighting for their life as police search for the driver who took off, authorities said.
Where and When It Happened
The crash happened around 11:10 p.m. Saturday near the middle school, according to ABC7 Chicago. Officers arrived to find three people hurt; all were taken to nearby hospitals, and one was listed in life-threatening condition, police said.
Officials have not released the ages of those injured and said only limited details are being shared while the investigation moves forward.
Police Response and How to Help
The Village of Carpentersville lists its Police Department contact information on its website, and anyone with security or dashcam video, or other tips, is asked to call the department at (847) 551-3481, according to the Village of Carpentersville. The village also offers an anonymous tip option and is urging residents to pass along any footage or eyewitness accounts that might help investigators identify the vehicle and driver involved.
Legal Note
Illinois law requires drivers involved in crashes that cause injuries to stop, provide aid and exchange information. Leaving the scene can trigger criminal charges. The state statute 625 ILCS 5/11-401 spells out drivers’ duties after a serious crash and the possible penalties for taking off when someone is hurt, according to the Illinois General Assembly.
Investigation Remains Active
By Sunday, Carpentersville police said they still had few additional details to share and again called on anyone who witnessed the crash or has video that might show the suspect vehicle to contact detectives, as reported by ABC7 Chicago. The department said more information will be released as the case develops.
