A late-night two-car crash on Maplegrove Street in La Puente left a 49-year-old driver dead Friday, according to officials.
Emergency crews were called just before midnight to the 15832 block of Maplegrove Street after reports of a collision. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner later identified him as Reginald Crim of La Puente.
What officials said
California Highway Patrol officers were called at 11:34 p.m. Friday to 15832 Maplegrove St., near Alieron Avenue, after a report of a crash involving a black Jeep and a gray sedan. A CHP officer told City News Service that emergency personnel found the driver unconscious in one of the vehicles and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The collision temporarily shut down both eastbound and westbound lanes of Maplegrove Street while investigators worked the scene, according to MyNewsLA.
Investigation and next steps
Authorities have not released any information about what may have caused the crash, including whether speed, impairment or other factors were involved. No arrests were reported at the scene.
