A 16-year-old boy was shot in Lowell on Monday and taken to a local hospital with what police described as a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his left arm. Officers found the teen on the 400 block of Lawrence Street, though investigators later said the actual shooting happened at a different nearby location.
What Happened
According to the Lowell Sun, officers were dispatched after a radio call reported that someone had been shot on Monday. The paper reports the teen's mother was notified shortly after the incident via an emergency radio broadcast, and that the youth was transported to a local hospital with the wound to his left arm. Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Bureau are now handling the case.
Investigation Under Way
Police canvassed the neighborhood as detectives worked to build a timeline and pinpoint exactly where the shooting took place. So far, authorities have not released any suspect description or possible motive, keeping details close to the vest while the investigation remains active.
Neighborhood Context
Shootings remain relatively uncommon in Greater Lowell, but incidents involving teenagers tend to rattle neighbors and local officials more than most. The case of Teen wounded on Common Avenue, a 2024 incident Hoodline covered, showed how quickly a single episode can spark community concern and calls for action.
What Police Are Asking
Detectives are urging anyone who saw anything, or who may have surveillance or cellphone video from the area, to contact Lowell Police or the Criminal Investigations Bureau. The department, along with prosecutors, has said it will release additional information as the investigation moves forward.
