A June 4 stabbing inside a Lucasville home left a 45-year-old man fighting for his life and a Portsmouth woman facing serious felony charges, according to Scioto County authorities. The victim was identified as 45-year-old Larry William Gill, and the suspect as 40-year-old Rheena Nichole Shaw. Gill was flown to a trauma center after the attack and remains in critical condition.
Visit Turns Violent, Suspect Arrested
Detectives say Shaw went to a Ridge Lane home in Lucasville, where she allegedly stabbed Gill in the chest before taking off from the scene. Officers later located and arrested her that night.
Shaw has been charged with felonious assault and attempted murder. She appeared for arraignment in Portsmouth Municipal Court and is being held on a $100,000 bond.
Gill has undergone two surgeries and remains in critical condition. Sheriff David Thoroughman said investigators intend to present additional charges to the Scioto County grand jury, as reported by CW Columbus.
Hospital Response
After the stabbing, medics took Gill to Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth. From there, he was flown to a trauma center outside the area for more advanced care. SOMC lists its main campus at 1805 27th Street and serves as the regional hospital for the surrounding community.
Investigation and Public Tips
Sheriff Thoroughman said detectives have identified Shaw as the suspect and stressed that the investigation remains active. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Jodi Conkel at 740-351-1091, according to CW Columbus.
Legal Next Steps
Shaw faces felony counts that carry substantial prison time if she is convicted. Felonious assault is defined in the Ohio Revised Code 2903.11, while attempts to commit murder are covered in the Ohio Revised Code 2923.02, which treats attempts on murder as first-degree felonies in many cases.
The Scioto County Prosecutor's Office handles felony indictments and grand jury presentations in the county, the office says. As the case moves through the local courts, investigators are continuing to develop details and are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
