Neighbors said a person was found with a severe neck wound and that a woman was spotted bolting from the area as officers arrived. By sunrise, the street was still locked down under police tape as detectives worked through the morning.
According to ABC7 New York, officers responding to the 911 call discovered one person who had been fatally stabbed, reportedly in the neck. The station reported that a woman ran from the scene. A police statement reviewed by Patch did not say whether anyone had been arrested in connection with the killing.
Beaumont Avenue scene
News 12 reported that several blocks of Beaumont Avenue were shut down between Dover Road and Polo Road, roughly half a mile from Massapequa High School and just off Merrick Road. Crime scene units, marked patrol cars and ambulances lined the street, and reporters watched as investigators photographed a vehicle parked along the block.
Per Patch, detectives from the Nassau County Police Department Homicide Squad were assigned to the case, and officers from the department's Seventh Precinct initially responded after the 911 call. The police statement Patch obtained did not identify the victim and did not address whether any suspect was in custody.
Not every outlet is hearing the same story. NBC New York, citing police sources, reported that a person was taken into custody at the scene. Other local newsrooms that based their coverage on official police releases reported that no arrests had been announced. As of Monday afternoon, investigators had not publicly cleared up the discrepancy.
Neighbors' reaction
Neighbors described a jarring wake-up on what should have been an ordinary Monday. "I was panicking. It was definitely something large," Janine Cassarino told ABC7 New York. Anthony Boccia said he rushed outside fearing the victim might be his brother-in-law.
Residents told reporters they believed the victim was a man who lives on the block, though police have not confirmed that publicly.
The investigation remains active and county police have released only limited information so far, according to Daily Voice. Detectives have not released the victim's name or any other identifying details, and officials are asking anyone with tips or relevant video to contact the Nassau County Police Department as the probe continues.
