Surveillance cameras were rolling late on a Friday morning in Germantown when a fight on Manheim Street escalated into gunfire, and now Philadelphia police want help putting names to three faces caught on video.
The shooting unfolded around 11:50 a.m. on May 17 on the 100 block of Manheim Street, according to police. Investigators say the footage, released this week as part of an ongoing investigation, shows a gunman firing into a crowd during the dispute. No injuries were reported.
As reported by NBC10 Philadelphia, another individual involved in the fight called for backup, and two armed men soon arrived. One of them opened fire, squeezing off several rounds into the crowd, yet somehow no one was hit.
Police described the suspected shooter as having cornrows and wearing a gray hoodie, white shirt and black pants. The second armed man was described as having braids and wearing a black hoodie and black pants. Investigators are also looking for a third man, who was not armed in the video and was seen wearing black shorts and a T-shirt.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Northwest Detective Division at 215-686-3183 or 215-686-3184, or the department tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477).
How Police Are Asking For Help
The Philadelphia Police Department routinely posts surveillance images, wanted notices and case updates on its online news blotter, leaning on neighbors and businesses to help fill in the blanks. The department site walks people through how to submit anonymous tips, register private cameras with the SafeCam program, or reach district detectives directly.
In the Manheim Street case, investigators are especially interested in any additional footage from nearby homes or businesses. Police have urged residents who recorded the May 17 incident to hold onto that video and contact detectives instead of deleting or sharing it widely.
How Neighbors Can Help And Where To Turn
Beyond police, local information hubs and community groups keep an eye on neighborhood safety and help connect people with support after shootings, even when no one is physically hurt. Resolve Philly’s Germantown Info Hub is one of those go-to resources.
Resolve Philly operates a Germantown-focused hub along with a bilingual text line that shares local updates and links people to services and information. For investigatory tips tied to the Manheim Street shooting, police have asked the public to call the Northwest Detective Division or the 215-686-TIPS line, according to The Philadelphia Police Department.
