A normally quiet Owasso block turned tense just after midnight Sunday when gunfire hit a house near South Cedar Street and East 4th Street, police say. Bullets struck the home, but everyone inside escaped without injury. Neighbors later told officers they heard multiple shots, and investigators recovered at least one shell casing outside the residence as they opened an active investigation.
Owasso officers were called around 12:30 a.m. after the homeowner reported getting into an argument with several people in a vehicle parked outside, according to FOX23. Police told FOX23 the homeowner went back inside and grabbed a gun, and shortly afterward at least two rounds were fired from the passing vehicle.
How investigators are searching
Detectives canvassed nearby businesses in hopes that surveillance cameras caught the suspect vehicle on video. They also plan to pull footage from local camera networks and automated license-plate readers to help narrow down potential suspects.
Flock Safety's license-plate reader devices log plate numbers and vehicle details that investigators can later search when they have a suspect vehicle description, according to Flock Safety.
What police have found so far
At the scene, officers collected at least one shell casing in front of the home, and the homeowner described the suspect vehicle as a black Chevy Equinox, FOX23 reports. Police searched the neighborhood and nearby businesses for additional video and say multiple investigative leads have already come from that footage.
Officers also turned to a drone and a K-9 unit during the initial response, but those tools did not produce useful results in this case, according to investigators.
How to help
Owasso police are urging anyone who might have information or video from the area to contact the department's tip line at 918-272-COPS (2677) or use the non-emergency number listed on the city's website, Owasso Police Department. Detectives say the investigation is ongoing and are asking residents and nearby businesses to preserve any relevant recordings and share them with investigators.
