Minooka Community High School District is getting a major upgrade this August, with not one but two state-of-the-art facilities set to open: a 92,700-square-foot Field House at the South Campus and a 56,200-square-foot Career & Technical Education Center at the Central Campus. Both buildings are designed to expand athletic space, hands-on technical training, and community programming, and district leaders say the aim is to benefit both students and the surrounding communities.
According to Shaw Local, the Field House will open to the public on Saturday, August 15, with a ribbon-cutting at 12:15 p.m. and tours from noon to 3 p.m. Two weeks later, on Saturday, August 29, the Central Campus Career & Technical Education Center will debut with its own 12:15 p.m. ribbon-cutting, and tours will run from noon to 3 p.m.
The Field House at South Campus
The new Field House packs in four full-size basketball courts, a 200-meter indoor track surfaced in Mondo professional flooring - the same material used at the 2024 Paris Olympics - plus modern locker rooms and dedicated training spaces for student-athletes and community groups.
The district's website, Minooka Community High School District, lists the South Campus at 26655 W. Eames St., Channahon, and the Central Campus at 301 S. Wabena Ave., Minooka, and has been sharing construction updates and Career & Technical Education information as the project has moved along.
Career & Technical Education Center
The Central Campus CTE Center brings roughly 56,200 square feet of new and remodeled labs and classrooms for auto technology, welding, construction, robotics and electrical work, along with a commercial kitchen and upgraded food-lab space, according to Shaw Local. The work is part of an $82 million facilities upgrade funded through a mix of savings, debt certificates and working cash bonds, in a plan district leaders have described as structured so it does not raise the current tax rate.
Both grand-opening events are free and open to the public, with tours and ribbon-cutting ceremonies on the schedule. The district recommends checking its event calendar or main website before heading out, in case there are any last-minute changes.
