Major Crimes detectives with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office arrested an 18-year-old Moses Lake man Wednesday following an investigation into allegations that he sexually assaulted a child. Deputies took the teen into custody during a traffic stop in Moses Lake after a probe that began when the victim reported the alleged assaults to a trusted adult. Detectives say the case also involves inappropriate online contact between the suspect and the juvenile.
According to NewsRadio 560 KPQ, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as 18-year-old Hunter Gray and said he is charged with second-degree rape of a child and communication with a minor for immoral purposes. Investigators told reporters the probe started after the victim made a disclosure in May and that detectives uncovered inappropriate social-media communications between Gray and the child before the alleged assaults. Authorities are asking anyone with information to call the Grant County tip line at 509-762-1160.
What investigators say about the online contacts
Detectives say messages exchanged on social platforms played a role in how the case developed and that digital forensics units are reviewing those communications as part of the Major Crimes investigation. Officials have not released further details about the alleged victim, citing the sensitivity of cases involving minors. The sheriff’s office says the investigation remains active and that more information will be shared as it becomes available.
