A quiet Friday afternoon in Humboldt Park turned grim when a woman’s body was discovered inside the sprawling West Side park, prompting a full-scale death investigation by Chicago police.
Officers responding to a call around 1 p.m. found the woman in the park’s 3000 block of West Augusta Boulevard, according to police. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and detectives have not yet released her identity or any information on how she died, as the investigation remains active.
ABC7 Chicago reports that officers opened a death investigation after the body was located inside the park shortly after 1 p.m. Friday. The station notes there was “no further information on the circumstances leading up to her death,” and police said they continue to investigate. Authorities have not announced any arrests.
What This Means For Humboldt Park
The discovery lands at a complicated moment for public safety citywide. May logged one of the lowest homicide totals for that month in decades, even as shootings so far this year are running slightly ahead of last year’s historically low pace, according to reporting by WTTW and the Chicago Sun-Times.
Neighborhoods on the West Side, including Humboldt Park, have seen overall violence fall from the pandemic-era peaks but still deal with sporadic serious incidents that rattle residents and parkgoers whenever they happen.
Police Response
So far, investigators are keeping details close. ABC7 Chicago notes that police have not released the victim’s age and have not disclosed a cause of death. Officials said they will share more information as it becomes available.
Anyone who was in or near Humboldt Park around the time of the discovery, or who may have information that could help investigators, is urged to contact Chicago police. This story will be updated if the Cook County medical examiner or police release additional details.
