A late-night scene outside a Saugus bar turned grim Monday when a man was found dead, prompting a swift response from deputies, detectives and animal-control officers. Video from the area showed deputies covering the body, as investigators began trying to piece together how the man died.
Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department’s Santa Clarita Station were called around 11:30 p.m. Monday to The Shot Exchange, where they found the man unconscious outside the bar, “with no apparent injuries,” a Santa Clarita Station watch commander told City News Service, according to MyNewsLA. Deputies covered the body with tarps as fire personnel and animal-control officers arrived on scene.

Los Angeles Fire Department personnel were called to the bar and pronounced the man dead. A dog that had been with him was taken into custody by Los Angeles County Animal Control, the sheriffs department said, according to MyNewsLA. Authorities have not released the victim’s name or a cause of death, and detectives are continuing to process the scene.
