
A deadly discovery along a quiet stretch of the San Antonio River has shaken Wilson County, after a woman was found shot to death at Helton Nature Park on Tuesday.
Deputies with the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a deceased person along the river and found the woman lying on the riverbank with what appeared to be a fatal gunshot wound. Her identity is being withheld while investigators work to notify family and piece together what happened.
Authorities told KSAT that deputies were dispatched Tuesday to the 15600 block of FM 775 at Helton Nature Park after the caller’s report came in. The case remains active as investigators comb through the scene for evidence.
Texas Rangers Join Active Investigation
The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office has called in the Texas Rangers to assist with the case, signaling that investigators are taking a methodical approach to the shooting. The agency also emphasized there is “no threat to the public,” according to what it told KSAT.
So far, authorities have not released any information about possible suspects or a motive. Detectives are still working to establish the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
Popular River Park Turns Crime Scene
The killing unfolded inside John William Helton Nature Park, a 98-acre property along the San Antonio River that is managed by the San Antonio River Authority. The park, listed at 15662 FM 775, offers trails, paddling access and a large pavilion, and is a regular spot for day visitors and river recreation, according to the San Antonio River Authority.
