What started as a low-key pickup basketball game in northeast Nashville ended with a foot chase, a recovered iPhone, and two people in handcuffs after an armed robbery on the court spilled into a nearby home, according to police.
Two brothers told officers they ran after suspects who had just robbed them at gunpoint, chased them into a house on Apple Valley Circle, and cornered them inside. During the pursuit, one suspect dropped a stolen iPhone, which the victims were able to recover, police said. Officers later detained two people after they walked out of the house and were taken into custody on the street.
Robbery At The Court, Affidavit Says
According to an affidavit cited by WSMV, the trouble began over the weekend at a basketball court on Mulberry Way when one suspect pulled a black Glock and ordered players to drop their belongings. As the brothers took off after the suspects, their sister arrived, and the gun was allegedly pointed in her direction before the suspect ran into a house on Apple Valley Circle. During the chase, the stolen iPhone was dropped and recovered, the affidavit states.
Arrests And Booking
Police documents identify one of the people arrested as 18-year-old Derrick Williams, who faces two counts of aggravated robbery with a weapon and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The Davidson County Sheriff's Office shows Williams was booked early Monday, with a bond set at $150,000. No details were immediately available about the second person who was detained.
Police Lock Down Street Outside Home
Officers returned to the Apple Valley Circle house on Monday morning, positioning themselves outside and blocking the road to nonresidents while detectives waited for a search warrant, WSMV reported. Police told the station there was no ongoing threat to the public and that the investigation remained active.
Investigation Ongoing
Metro detectives are continuing to work the case and are expected to present evidence to the District Attorney's Office as they decide whether to file additional charges. Authorities said anyone with information or video of the robbery is urged to contact Metro Nashville police.
