Nashville is starting the week on a mellow note, with early Tuesday morning temperatures in the low 60s giving way to a mostly sunny day. The high should land near 87 this afternoon, squarely in comfortable shorts-weather territory. Wednesday cranks up the heat, with highs around 92 and a noticeable breeze out of the south-southwest. By late week, though, you will want some flexibility in your outdoor plans as rain chances build Thursday into Friday.
According to the National Weather Service, tonight stays mostly clear with a low near 66. Wednesday turns hotter and breezier, with south-southwest winds around 5 to 15 mph and gusts up to 30 mph. Forecasters say rain chances ramp up on Thursday, when showers and thunderstorms are likely and widespread downpours are possible. The agency’s forecast discussion notes roughly a 40 to 50 percent chance that parts of southeast Middle Tennessee could pick up more than 2 inches of rain from Thursday through Friday.
Afternoon Winds Pick Up
Winds stay on the lighter side this morning, then gradually strengthen through the afternoon and into Wednesday. That breeze will make inland spots feel a bit warmer than locations closer to the Cumberland. Gusts near 30 mph on Wednesday could topple lightweight items and turn umbrellas into temporary kites, so it is smart to secure patio furniture, tents, and any loose decor ahead of time. If you have outdoor events scheduled for Wednesday evening, consider bumping them earlier in the day or moving them indoors.
Thursday Into Friday Flood Risk
A series of disturbances riding a moist southwest flow is expected to drag showers and thunderstorms across Middle Tennessee from Thursday into Friday. Periods of heavy rain could lead to localized street flooding and ponding in spots with poor drainage. The highest potential for very heavy totals appears to be across the southeast half of the forecast area. If you live in low-lying neighborhoods or frequently drive through underpasses, avoid standing water and give yourself extra time on Thursday and Friday morning commutes.
For now, enjoy the sunshine on Tuesday, but keep an eye on updated forecasts as the week goes on. Shifting storm timing and rainfall totals can still change how the late-week setup plays out, so move weather-sensitive plans indoors when you can, build in a cushion for wet drives, and stay tuned for any flood advisories or statements as the system closes in.
