A late-night call turned a quiet north Sacramento block into a full-blown crime scene Friday, after officers found a woman dead on Rene Avenue, according to police.
Officers arrived just before midnight on the 2300 block of Rene Avenue, where they located an adult woman who was pronounced dead at the scene. Crime Scene Investigators worked into the early morning hours, combing the street and nearby homes for evidence while several people from a nearby residence were detained for questioning.
According to Public Safety News, preliminary reports indicated the woman had a neck wound that appeared to have been caused by a knife. The outlet credits Anthony Gamble with on-scene reporting and notes that multiple police units remained in the neighborhood while investigators and CSI teams processed the area. Several individuals were detained as detectives canvassed for witnesses, and investigators described the case as active and ongoing.

North Sacramento’s Recent Violence
The Rene Avenue case is the latest in a run of violent incidents in north Sacramento. In March, officers found a man dead near May and Jessie in what was described as a brutal killing, as reported in body found at May and Jessie. Local outlets have also documented a series of shootings and stabbings in the area dating back to 2025, highlighting the growing workload for the city’s Homicide Unit.
KCRA previously reported on a 2025 north Sacramento case where a woman was found shot inside an apartment on Taylor Street, underscoring a pattern of deadly violence in the broader neighborhood.
What Investigators Say
Sacramento Police homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigators have taken over the Rene Avenue investigation, gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses. The Sacramento County Coroner will release the victim’s identity after next-of-kin notifications, consistent with procedures outlined in a recent Sacramento Police news release.
Public Safety News reports that several individuals were detained for questioning at a nearby residence, though police have not announced any formal arrests or filed charges. Detectives continue to canvass the neighborhood and are asking anyone who saw or heard anything to come forward.
