An early-morning robbery in North Philadelphia left a man shot in the face and his electric bicycle briefly serving as the gunman’s getaway ride, according to police. The attack unfolded around 3 a.m. Tuesday near 25th Street and West Indiana Avenue. Investigators say the suspect took off on the victim’s e‑bike, then ditched it roughly a block away. The victim was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he was conscious on arrival and listed in stable condition.
Police say robber fled on victim’s e‑bike
Police told 6abc that the robbery happened at about 3 a.m. and that the suspect rode away on the victim’s e‑bike. According to the station, officers later found the bike abandoned about a block from the shooting scene after the suspect apparently left it behind because of a flat tire. The outlet reports that officials described the victim as conscious when he arrived at Temple and in stable condition.
Victim treated at Temple University Hospital
The victim was taken to Temple University Hospital, whose emergency department is part of a Level‑1 trauma center equipped to handle serious injuries, including gunshot wounds, according to Temple Health. That Level‑1 designation means trauma surgeons and a full team of specialists are available around the clock for patients brought in from across the city.
E‑bikes have shown up in other Philadelphia getaways
Using bicycles or e‑bikes to escape crime scenes is not new in Philadelphia and has turned up in other cases this year. As reported by The Philadelphia Inquirer, a January incident involved a suspect who took a bike from a SEPTA bus, then robbed someone of an e‑bike and later fatally shot a victim, a sequence investigators say can help suspects disappear quickly on two wheels.
Investigation ongoing
Philadelphia police continue to investigate the early-morning robbery and shooting and have not released further information about a possible suspect. Local outlets report that investigators are still seeking details and plan to provide updates as they become available.
