
A late-night two-car crash in north Phoenix has left a pregnant woman and the newborn she was carrying dead, according to police. The collision happened around 11:30 p.m. Saturday near 19th Avenue and Beardsley Road, just off the Loop 101. Emergency crews rushed the woman to a nearby hospital, where medical staff attempted to save both mother and child.
According to Arizona's Family, Phoenix police said hospital staff delivered the baby after the mother arrived, but both later died. Detectives told the outlet they believe the driver traveling with the pregnant woman ran a red light and hit a second vehicle that was heading east on Beardsley Road. Police said the driver believed to be at fault was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, while the other motorist walked away unhurt.

The crash took place at the intersection of 19th Avenue and Beardsley Road, where frontage roads from the Loop 101 connect with signalized surface streets. That stretch along the 101 corridor has seen other serious collisions in recent weeks and months, including fatal crashes that briefly shut down the freeway, according to FOX 10 Phoenix.
