Honolulu police are searching for two men after a tense North Shore robbery attempt in Mokulēʻia on Friday night left a victim shaken but not seriously hurt, according to the Honolulu Police Department. District 2 patrol officers were called out after a man standing outside was confronted by two males. One suspect allegedly assaulted him while the other pulled out a handgun, and the pair took off before officers got to the scene. The victim suffered a minor injury and declined medical treatment.
The confrontation happened at about 9:00 p.m. on June 26, when the suspects tried and failed to take the man’s property. One suspect is described as about 6 feet tall, roughly 200 pounds with a stocky build. The second is about 5 feet 11 inches and around 160 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, and was last seen wearing dark clothing. Detectives say the suspects fled the area and that the case remains open, according to the Honolulu Police Department.
Police Urge Vigilance And Share Prevention Tips
In the wake of incidents like this, HPD is again reminding residents to stay alert, keep valuables out of sight and trust their instincts if something feels off. In a March release, the department laid out robbery-prevention basics such as walking in groups, sticking to well-lit paths and paying close attention to details like clothing, height or any vehicle seen during a crime. “Your safety starts with awareness,” Lt. Kelvin Hayakawa said in that release, according to the Honolulu Police Department.
How To Help Investigators
Anyone who saw something, heard something or might have video from the area is asked to call CrimeStoppers at (808) 955-8300 or 911. Police say anonymous tips and shared footage often provide the break that moves a stalled case forward, according to the Honolulu Police Department.
HPD’s public crime-data portal tracks recent incidents across Oʻahu and lets users scan case logs and possible patterns. That tool, along with the department’s ongoing canvass in Mokulēʻia, is part of detectives’ effort to identify the two suspects and determine whether this robbery attempt is tied to any other cases, according to the HPD Crime Data Portal.
